Development of a web version of the YAP
We are now extending our previous calibration work on the YAP for utilization with web-based versions of the tool. This will dramatically facilitate adoption and utilization of the YAP in school-based programs and advance research related to youth PA behavior. Because calibration equations can be incorporated directly into the tool, it will ultimately be possible to provide personalized feedback to youth and to generate automated school level reports with aggregated data on PA and SB behaviors in youth. Fully refined versions of the YAP within FITNESSGRAM or other assessment platforms will enable broader use by schools interested in tracking participation in PA as part of district or state programming.
The web-based tool will also facilitate research applications on school PA and SB (for epidemiology studies or behavioral interventions). Lastly, the tools could potentially contribute to public health surveillance of PA and SB in youth through FITNESSGRAM and the newly established PYFP. The PYFP recently established FITNESSGRAM as the national fitness test (see http://www.presidentialyouthfitnessprogram.org/) so the calibration of the YAP can potentially make it possible to accurately assess youth PA profiles in schools throughout the country in a systematic way. Below are some screen captures of the current web-based YAP version as well as a brief video describing the ongoing calibration project taking place in Iowa.

The Online YAP in SchoolsOur team is now developing and testing an online version of the Youth Activity Profile. We have been working closely with local schools in Iowa to test the implementation and accuracy of the online tool.
Recently, we were invited to share our work with a local news channel in Des Moines, Iowa. Click play to see the related video news. |
